James P. Berko
As president of Seminole Behavioral Healthcare, James P. Berko has been a leading voice for mental-health and substance-abuse awareness in Seminole County for more than 25 years. Jim’s advocacy for the care and treatment of those suffering from mental illness extends more than 40 years and far beyond the county line, as he champions for critical funding of important services and encourages innovation in programs that will better serve our residents. During Jim's tenure as president, he has helped obtain more than $900,000 in funding for numerous special projects in Seminole County, including detoxification services, the crisis stabilization unit and forensic services. Over the past several years, Jim has played a key role in the Florida Legislature’s successful efforts toward providing $15 million in mental-health care funding for residents statewide, including $400,000 in Seminole County and $4.9 million in Central Florida. Jim’s career focus is on the development of programs that will serve the needs of children, assist those who suffer serious mental illness and provide recovery care for those with addictions.
